3-Leg Ahn Chair

Relaxing Chair

CNC Project #1: The prototype chair was created with 1/2” plywood and cardboard for surfaces. It was strong enough for an adult to sit on. A total of 5 people tested it and complained about the angle for back support. I created another prototype and tested it, and the angle for the back leg was too wide to support adults.

CNC Project #2: Final prototype chair created with 1/2” plywood and bending plywood for surfaces of legs, seat and back support. First, I created a back support and seat with “vacuum bag-forming” technique. I made top and bottom molds with CNC surface cut technique on 2” pink foam board. I inserted 3 layers of bending plywood in between these molds, and then I put them in a vacuum bag, which was connected to a compressor, for 4 hours. Second, I used CNC to cut plywood for legs. I used the bending plywood to cover the surface. Finally, I assembled the legs with the seat and the back support. A total of 6 people tested it and it was strong enough for an adult to sit on.
